Acton Trussell – The Moat House Canalside walk

Walk past the entrance to the Moat House to pass a pond on the left. Go through the gate and turn left onto the lane. Turn left again almost immediately to walk in front of a cottage, where a yellow public footpath sign directs walkers over the canal bridge.
Turn left to join the towing path and continue in this direction, admiring the brightly painted narrowboats in their moorings on the other side.
The path is well maintained, and quite wide for a towing path.
This is a delightfully rural canal to walk by, although the roar of the traffic on the motorway is never far away.
Walk as far as desired, and then turn around to retrace your steps back to the Moat House car park.
Facilities

At the Moat House. This is an establishment which boasts a large corporate clientele in well-manicured parkland surroundings. The extremely friendly and helpful staff extend a warm welcome to all, and the canal boat moorings behind the hotel are evidently much sought after too. Dogs are not allowed inside, but are welcome to join their humans at the pleasantly situated outdoor tables by the side of the lake, where light meals – sandwiches – are served. Dog water is provided.
Dog poo bin at the start of the walk.
