Getting There

Sat Nav: CW2 5PG
Leave the M6 at Junction 16 and take the B5078 Alsager, Northbound 2nd exit, Southbound 4th exit.
Turn left, signed Barthomley and at the village either turn right by the White Lion Inn to park nearby, or go past the inn and turn left to park by the village hall.
Return to M6 Junction 16
Leave the village with the White Lion to the left. Turn right at the T-junction onto the B5078 to return to the M6 Junction 16.
Bartholmey fields walk

Length of walk: 40-45 minutes
Wellies/boots essential in wet weather.
From the White Lion go down the road towards the church and turn left into the church car park by a well-obscured pubic footpath sign.
Pass the rectory on the right and up a few steps to walk with a hedge to the right and a dismal looking pool to the left. Then go over a stile with dog gate, bear left and over the next stile to enter a large field.
Walk with the hedgerow to the left and then cross the field with the dewpond to the left.
Keep going until the hedge at the far side, turn right and hunt for the almost invisible stile and waymarker in the far corner of the field. Carry on straight across the next field, aiming for the metal gate and stile near the trees.
Follow the waymarker arrow over the stile and towards the gate and waymarker ahead.
The Cheshire Countryside Circular path continues, but we turned round here after about 20 minutes walking in the rain to dry out at the White Lion.
Facilities
At the White Lion Inn. This is a small, busy inn which seems to be the second home of the entire village. Dogs on leads are welcome inside and water is provided. The landlord prefers dogs to bring their own drinking bowls. Fantastic pub with lots of atmosphere and happy smiling faces. There's also some outdoor seating.
