Callendar Park

Callendar Park

Length of walk: 30 minutes or longer

Leave the car park and enter the park. At first this seems to be a hugely popular family park, where dogs take their chances with the many toddlers, buggies and family groups. But things soon get better for canine visitors.

After the crazy golf, aim for the lake ahead. The faux-medieval towers of Callendar House will be on the left. We walked around the lake anti-clockwise, meeting a few dog walkers along the way and enjoying the space in this large area of stately parkland. Small paths lead off into light-dappled woodland, and dogs can run freely here away from the bustle of the family area.

Our orbit of the lake took around 40 minutes, and we then detoured to have a look at the front of the house before heading back to the car park.

The park has seen a lot of history – the Antonine Wall went through the grounds in Roman times, and many famous people have stayed at the house.
