Getting There
Northbound traffic: leave the M9 at junction 10 and take the 2nd exit signed Stirling A84. Drive over the motorway and at the next roundabout take the 2nd exit signed Stirling, A84.
Southbound traffic: leave the M9 at junction 10 and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit signed Stirling, A84.
Both directions: at the 1st roundabout continue ahead on the A84. At the 2nd roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the B8051, signed Ring Road. At the next roundabout take the 2 exit onto the A811, signed Erskine Bridge, Balloch.
Drive over the motorway. Turn left, signed Canbugbarron and the Touch Business Centre. After a short distance park in the off-road parking area on the right hand side, on a left hand bend. Note: if you pass any buildings, you’ve gone too far.
Return to M9 Junction 10
Turn round and return to the T-junction. Turn right.
Turn left at a mini-roundabout, signed Edinburgh, Perth M9.
At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit signed M9 Perth to return to Junction 10.
Garshellach Woods
Length of walk: 30 minutes or longer
From the parking area walk up the clearly visible track and after a dozen metres or so you will see the board of the Scottish Forestry Commission. Continue to follow the one and only track as it winds gently uphill through the trees.
This is a walk where dogs can really let off steam and enjoy off-lead freedom as you are unlikely to encounter other walkers in this remote spot. The shade of the large trees provides meditative calm and, although the path itself is a there-and-back affair, it’s a great place for thinking or singing out loud in the solitude while your dog does its doggy sniffing and leg-stretching.
Follow the path to your own half-way time, and then turn round and return to the car the same way.
Facilities
Free parking. There is space for one small camper van in the parking area, and a few cars.
Refreshments are available from a mobile catering van in a lay-by just after the left turn to the car park. This seems to be a popular stopping point, and cooked meals or a selection of Panini with tasty fillings are available.
