Getting There

Leave the M25 at Junction 9.
Westbound. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit, signed London SW, Kingston A243. At the following roundabout take the 3rd exit (London A243).
Eastbound. Take the 2nd exit (London A243).
Drive past the Leatherhead Golf Club, and the Star PH is on the left.
Return to M25 Junction 9
Turn right out of The Star car park along the A243 and back to the motorway roundabout
The Star - Ashstead Common
Length of walk – entirely up to you and your dog.
Leaving The Star car park, cross the A243 at the refuge. Turn right and walk a few metres before turning left at the Public Right of Way sign to Ashstead Common. This short lane takes you to the Common entrance, past a couple of houses to your left.
Ashstead Common is enormous (500 acres) and will easily satisfy the most energetic of hounds.
An information board at the entrance indicates a circular route.
In practice, we weren't able to match the paths shown on the board with the many paths encountered whilst trying this walk out. So, unless you have plenty of time on your hands, our suggestion is to follow the Bridleway which is well signed, if perhaps less interesting.
If you have a good sense of direction, the footpaths start through brushwood entries and lead through glades of old oaks and abundant greenery.
Facilities
The Star is dog friendly, with dogs permitted in the bar and beer garden. Water bowls are provided. No facilities on the common.
