Getting There

Leave the M40 at junction and at the roundabout take the A355 signed Slough, northbound 1st exit, southbound 3rd exit.

Continue along the A355, entering Farnham Common. Drive past Farnham Common Infant School on the right. Take the 3rd turning on the right after the school (Beeches Road). Carry straight on at the crossroads to enter Burnham Beeches Nature Reserve.

Return to M40 Junction 2

Drive out of Burnham Beeches and across the crossroads. Turn left onto the A355 and continue to return to Junction 2 of the M40.

Map of M40 Junction 2 Walk

Like most of the ancient forest land surrounding London, Burnham Beeches is owned and managed by the City of London and gives Londoners living in the west of the city a welcome lung of open space. Its 540 acres are visited by nearly half a million people annually, and yet it never seems to be crowded.

To ensure that the forest is appreciated by all its visitors, there is a fair-minded Dog Code in operation – please click on the Dog Code link here, and stock up with the free poo bags to avoid inadvertent damage to the trees.

There is no particular route to follow here, as the woodland beckons from the far side of the open green by the car park, and dogs all seem to head straight towards it.

One short walk suggestion is to walk through the trees as far as the Withy Spring. Follow a clear path which crosses the stream and go straight on. When this path meets a path crossing it, turn right. Cross over Sir Henry Peter's Drive and continue in the same direction to cross ‘The Heath'. This path leads down to the Upper Pond. Bear right on one of the many paths to return to the car park.

The wheelchair accessible path starts at the Information point, where full details are available.
