Getting There
Leave the M62 at Junction 7 and take the A57 signed Warrington, eastbound 4th exit, westbound 1st exit.
At the traffic lights turn right onto the B5419 signed Cronton (Wilmere Lane).
At the T-junction turn right onto the A5080 signed Cronton.
At the 1st mini-roundabout take the 2nd exit, and at the next mini-roundabout take the 2nd exit to continue along the A5080.
Pass a college on the left, and just after a Pelican crossing turn right (unsigned).
Pass some green gateposts and follow the track to the car park at the top.
Return to M62 Junction 7
Return down the lane and turn left.
Take the 2nd exit at the mini-roundabout and then take the 1st exit at the roundabout signed Motorway.
Take a left turn signed M62 and A570 St Helens.
At the traffic lights turn left, signed M62, St Helens and continue to rejoin the M62.
Pex Hill
Length of walk: 20 minutes or so
Turn right from the car park towards the green Footpath sign, where there is a choice of 3 paths.
We turned left. This is a good wide track, which could be muddy in wet weather, with fields on either side.
As the path narrows, follow a yellow footpath arrow straight on. The path leads to a lane, with a new housing development going up on the right.
Turn round here and retrace your steps to the car park.
This short walk can be extended by exploring the other path option, which is closer to the vehicle access road to the car park.
Facilities
Free car park. Use of WCs in observatory. Dog poo bags provided.
Dog walkers are kindly requested by the special needs college to use the poo bags and dispose of them appropriately as there have been problems here in the past.
