Getting There

Cuerden Valley Park

Leave the M65 at Junction 1 and at the roundabout take the 1st exit (westbound traffic) or 3rd exit (eastbound traffic).

At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit signed Bamber Bridge, B6258.

Turn left onto the A49 (Wigan Road), and then the 1st left onto Shady Lane.

Drive to the end of Shady Lane and turn left at the T-junction. The Wigan Road car park is signed on the left, over a bridge.

Return to M65

Leave the Wigan Road car park and turn right. Take the 1st right turn to return up Shady Lane.

At the T-junction, turn right onto the A49, then right onto the A6.

Take the 3rd exit at the roundabout, and at the next roundabout return to the M65 (eastbound 1st exit, westbound 3rd exit).

Cuerden Valley Park

Map of M65 Junction 1a Walk

Cuerden Valley Park is hugely popular with dog walkers, and the bright-eyed, waggy tailed dogs Jem met made it clear that this is a piece of canine heaven.

The main path from the car park is gravelled, so this is a good option for wet days if the wellies have been forgotten.

Canine aquanauts will appreciate a swim in the small, clean River Lostock which runs to the left of a grass path to the left of the main gravel track. The gravel track is shared with cyclists, so the grass path is a good option if you want to avoid the bikes.

To reach the visitor centre, follow the gravel track to a point where it crosses the river, and the visitor centre is signed.
