Getting There

Sat Nav: BB3 1JX
Leave the M65 at Junction 4 and take the A666 signed Blackburn (Earcroft Way), Eastbound 4th exit, Westbound 2nd exit.
At the traffic lights turn left, A666, and continue straight over a mini-roundabout. Turn right by a church onto Earnsdale Road, signed Sunnyhurst Wood.
Parking
Disabled visitors, turn right at a brown sign to Sunnyhurst Wood visitor centre.
Others, follow the brown tourist signs along Earnsdale Road to a car park just beyond the Sunnyhurst pub and Lychgate Hotel - this car park is also handy for walks up to the moors.
Return to M65 Junction 4
Return down Earnsdale Road and turn left at the T-junction. Turn right at the traffic lights to return to the M65.
Sunnyhurst Wood

There are two marked trails through the 85 acre woodland, one with no steps or stiles. Details of wildlife and longer routes, including the Darwen Tower walk, are available from the visitor centre.
The 2 mile walk to Darwen Tower starts at the lychgate. Apparently it is possible to see Wales from the tower on a good day. We didn't try this one, as the rain was pelting down and the leaf canopy of the wood looked a lot more attractive.
Entering through the lychgate brings you to a selection of paths heading off at various angles through the woodland, all well-maintained and easy to follow. The woodland is full of exciting sniffs for dogs, and popular with local dog walkers.
Facilities

Free car park (gated). WC, refreshments, children's play area at the visitor centre – open 1300-1430 Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends. Dog poo bins.
Alternative WCs can be found at the services on the motorway exit roundabout.
