Map of Moffat walks

The town of Moffat is best described as walkers’ and canine heaven. Branded as the first ‘Walkers Town’ in Scotland, some impeccable organisation has gone into creating a number of well marked and planned trails in and around the town and environs.

Trails which start at the car park include a 2 mile walk to Chapel, and a Woodside walk which is just under 3 miles.

Many paths are hard-surfaced, and fully accessible to wheelchairs and buggies.

Longer routes include woodland walks (Gallowhill), a forest walk in Craigieburn (just over 6 miles). Only one walk had dog restrictions due to cattle grazing – Hinchhill.

There are many more walks, and also a walking festival in October. More details of trail routes and events are on the Moffat website: http://www.visitmoffat.co.uk/pages/content.asp

As an example of imaginative thinking, and first-class organisation the little town of Moffat is completely awesome. The many walkers we passed on the trails all stopped to praise the walks here, and we wholeheartedly agreed with them! This is a more than 5 star walking experience, it’s truly wonderful!!
