Welcome!

Driving with Dogs gives dogs and their drivers a wonderful walk, and a dog-welcoming pub or coffee shop, within 5 miles of UK motorway exits.

Now, instead of passing those idyllic woods and streams right by the motorway, use the routes here to make travel more fun for both you and your dog.

Each walk is carefully researched and tested by the DwD team - David and Lezli and our tireless collie, Jem. We value your comments and support - so do let us know when you've enjoyed a walk.

Using this site

First click on the panel to the right to select your motorway.

Then use the handy chart to pick the best stopping point for your walk. The chart tells you what kind of walk to expect, whether it is fully accessible, the facilities available, and other useful info.

Click on the junction number for the walk you've chosen. This will tell you how to get there, where to park and the full walk route.

Bling on the beach

What does ‘beach holiday’ say to you -  Deck chairs, sandcastles and sand or deck shoes, Singapore Slings and sun?

Dogs used to an annual week of meditation, fasting or choral barking in kennels are in for a shock this summer. The trad beach holiday has been re-invented for a new generation of stay-at-homes. It’s no longer cool to be seen queuing at check-in for a cheap Greek island clubfest. The smart money now is on holidays with low carbon footprints; we’re staying home. And the dog comes too.

So along with Bermuda shorts and hankies on the head, no one wants to see carelessly accessorised pooches on the beach this year.

Driving with Dogs sent fashion student Erica with staffie Gaumont to sniff out three canine holiday essentials for 2008.

K9 Security HoodieGaumont has really sensitive skin, and the combination of saltwater and sun makes him itch a lot. One solution is to rinse him well after swimming, and then pop him into a towelling hoodie. This one is great as it suits Gaumont’s macho personality and covers the vulnerable neck area as well.

Bone K9 T ShirtFor overcast days when there isn’t the risk of sunburn, this bone motif T-shirt looks great and it’s both masculine and piratical. I’d want Gaumont to wear it to BBQs because he once got burned trying to help with the cooking, and this would keep him safe from sizzling sausages.

Harness by Dear DogAnd my final choice has to be this harness and matching lead. It’s one of a range of walkies outfits and would look good at any time of the day or night.

Power - Dog ID TagI know this is number four – but it’s really important! When your pet’s away on holiday, make sure that the ID tag has your holiday address on it. Mobile signals can be weak by the sea so don’t rely on that alone.
