If you're travelling to - or back to -  the UK and using the Pet Passport scheme, your pet will need worming and tick treatment between 24-48 hours before you travel.

This has to be done by a vet, and the Pet Passport will need to have the vet's official stamp and details of treatment given.  Without this, DEFRA approved ferries/trains/planes etc will not allow you to take your pet on board so it's important to get the timing, and the admin, completely right.

Please check the most recent regulations for pet travel at the official UK government website before you travel.

Monsal Head and Dale is one of iconic beauty spots of the White Peak - and Fido will get a good welcome from the Stables Bar and the outdoor cafe at the viewpoint overlooking the dale.

For walking it's not ideal as the beautifully maintained Monsal Trail is 'dogs on leads' only, as is the lush valley below.

If your dog is a happy lead walker, then this is a pleasant and popular stroll.

A great place for dogs to cool off with a dip in the river, or wash the mud off their paws.

The Monsal Dale has a 'dogs on leads' rule because of the cows and sheep, so it's a better swimming than walking place.

In summer there are usually lots of dogs having fun in this part of the river.  Do check the speed of the current before Fido gets in the water as it varies a lot depending on rainfall levels.

If you have canal buffs in your party be prepared for them to abandon all ideas of walking the dog in this fascinating excavation of 14 locks. The dog walking is good - and the work being carried out by volunteers to restore the canal is genuinely fascinating.

Branded as the first ‘Walkers' Town’ in Scotland, some impeccable organisation has gone into creating a series of well marked trails in and around the town and environs. There's a walking festival in autumn every year too.

There are two dog-friendly pubs in the town, and useful shops for provisions.
