Other Facilities

WC+disabled. The lady in the cafe lets dogs in and she puts a waterbowl out as well. It is a bit basic and there is a plan I think to upgrade the facilities there at some point. There is a poo bin at the car park.

Walks

The area near the café is the nicest part of the estate to walk dogs in from our perspective. Meadowland, ancient woods, car free, safe. The most danger is being hit by the odd golfball. Not too muddy, unless you go in the woods of course! The meadows are left uncut until August, so wonderful long grass and wildflowers to play hide and seek in.

This dog walk has been sent in by Brian John Kent - thank you!

Directions

From the A369.

After Abbots Leigh go past the sign for Leigh Woods Go straight ahead at the traffic lights at the junction with Beggar Bush Lane continuing to follow signs for Clifton. After that set of lights, go past Valley Road and North Road and take the 3rd left turning into St Mary's Road. (If you miss this then your best bet is to turn into Bridge Road - signed Clifton toll bridge) and turn around in a side road - it's quite a way to the bottom of the hill). Then turn right into Church Road, then right again onto Bridge Road. You come to a set of traffic lights, where you go straight across and off the main road through the gatehouse. I think it is called Clifton Lodge, but it doesn't have a name plate. You can only get into this entrance either coming from Bridge Road or coming up the hill (i.e. going back towards the motorway).

This brings you into the estate and you drive up an avenue of lime trees and turn right where it is signed to the car park by the golf course. The road isn't a through road so you can't get lost!

There are other entrances. You can always carry on right down the hill (Rownham Hill and either turn around at the mini roundabout at the bottom and come back up or you can go in at the mansion entrance which is Kennel Lodge Road.

MOTORWAY WALKS - The Book

With nearly 200 walks from the Driving with Dogs website, this handy little book is an ideal guide to the best dog-friendly pubs and dog walks within 5 miles of UK motorway exits. Like the website walks, you'll also find information about campervan access, disabled facilities, kids' activities, safe parking places, sat-nav codes and written route directions too.

Driving with Dogs is working with the Border Collie Trust GB to bring you the Motorway Walks book at £9.99 (plus p&p). Every book sold will include a donation to the work of the Trust. Jem, the collie who has tested all the motorway walks, is a Border Collie Trust rescue and we're delighted that donations from the book he inspired will go back to helping the Trust with their work.
