Carrigglas, Co. Longford

Description

Allenagh Cottages are located close to the centre of Ireland, just outside the busy town of Longford and are part of the old Carrigglas Estate. Originally the home of farm workers, they had become almost derelict but have been renovated by the owners, providing very good holiday accommodation for guests. The Manor house close by, with its stables, garden and museum, are open to the public from May to September. There are also several places of historical interest in the area including a Dolmen site and the site of the Battle of 1978 at Drumlish.

The area provides many interesting woodland walks, and the Royal Canal way which runs right through Co. Longford, is suitable for those who may not be energetic enough to travel the more challenging routes. The midlands have a wide selection of golf courses, while visitors may also enjoy fishing in one of the many local lakes, rivers or canal. Other activities available in Longford include cinema, bowling, indoor swimming pool, Pitch ’n’ Putt, tennis and greyhound racing.

Places of interest are Corlea Bog Museum, Michael Casey Bog Oak Studio, karting at Edgeworthstown, horse riding and cruising on the River Shannon. Being in the centre of Ireland this is an ideal touring base being within driving distance of Galway or Dublin. The local town of Longford has shopping centre, cinema and a good selection of pubs and restaurants.

Elec by meter reading. Bed linen and towels inc. M/wave. W/machine. T/dryer. D/washer. Parking (2 cars).
