Walks

One small car park leads to a choice of routes alongside the Grantham canal in the Cotgrave Country Park.

There's a circular route - down one side of the canal and back up the other side -  on the car park side of the road. The canal is quite overgrown and un-navigable.

And a 'there and back' across the road, which is slightly more interesting as the canal is in better condition due to an ongoing dredging program and there are more birds and waterlife to be seen from the towing path.

The paths are reasonably well-maintained and level, both buggies and wheelchairs are better off across the road from the car park.

These are both lovely rural routes, and ideal for peaceful dog walking.

Cotgrave Country Park is near the town of Cotgrave, about eight miles from Nottingham city centre.

Follow signs to Cotgrave from the A52, A606 or A46. And then car access to the park is via Hollygate Lane.  There is pedestrian access from Colliery Lane.  The nearest postcode is NG12 3HE, but this isn't an exact fit.

MOTORWAY WALKS - The Book

With nearly 200 walks from the Driving with Dogs website, this handy little book is an ideal guide to the best dog-friendly pubs and dog walks within 5 miles of UK motorway exits. Like the website walks, you'll also find information about campervan access, disabled facilities, kids' activities, safe parking places, sat-nav codes and written route directions too.

Driving with Dogs is working with the Border Collie Trust GB to bring you the Motorway Walks book at £9.99 (plus p&p). Every book sold will include a donation to the work of the Trust. Jem, the collie who has tested all the motorway walks, is a Border Collie Trust rescue and we're delighted that donations from the book he inspired will go back to helping the Trust with their work.
