Did you know there's a special 'Take your Dog to Work Day' every year? In 2019 this is Friday June 21st, so as long as you get the OK from your boss Fido could be joining you for a fun-filled furry Friday.
Take your Dog to Work Day started in 1999 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The day was started to encourage businesses to allow dogs in the workplace for one Friday each year to celebrate the great companions dogs make and promote their adoptions from local shelters and rescue groups. Pet Sitters Intl (who invented the event) believes that when dog-less co-workers see how lovely dogs are they too will be encouraged to adopt a rescue dog.
Before planning to celebrate the day by taking your dog into work with you, it's important to plan so that both Fido and your colleagues enjoy the experience.
A new book called 'Office Dogs' has just been published by Hubble & Hattie. Author and dog behaviourist Stephanie Rousseau takes us through the basics of preparing yourself and the dog for happy office life. She looks at doggie comfort and bedding, office toys and feeding, and how to establish ground rules so that the office isn't taken over by dog hair, drool and barking. Well worth a read, not just by dog owners but everyone involved with a dog visiting the office. Who knows, one day could turn into a weekly event.
Office Dogs - The Manual is available from Amazon. The RRP is £9.99 and the ISBN number is 978-1-787113-81-7
