20km of sheer doggie delight Wells next the Sea, Norfolk - IMG_8057.JPG

Description

We set off from our pub base in Wells to find the sea and walked to Holkham Estate and back across the endless sands and dunes. Before you can get onto the beach there is a sign pointing dog walkers away from the beach to a dog area. Don't be alarmed, this takes you to a lovely cafe area and car park which you skirt walking up a line of conifers to some steps. Up and over and miles of beach are yours to run free. We loved the Lookout cafe as you come off the beach towards Holkham. It is recently opened, has water points for dogs and people, toilets, nature notes and food and drink, all in the shape of a bird hide, with binoculars for anyone to use. We then chose to walk the Lake Walk on the Holkham Estate before returning to lunch at the Victoria and then back to the beach for the return leg. If you want a shorter walk you can walk directly on woodland paths from the Estate to Wells. But we wanted more beach!

Turn left at the waterfront at Wells and keep walking.  It is tricky to know where exactly to come off the beach to gain access to the Outlook Cafe and adjacent car park through a gap in the dunes.  Ask locals or take a map.  I had a photo I took of the map on the desk of the TIC and it was all very easy.
