Description

If you're in Dover with some time to spare, then a visit to its imposing medieval castle is a great way to entertain all the family - and give the dog a bit of a walk as well.   Dogs are allowed everywhere except in the buildings and exhibits, so someone will need to be left with the pooch while others climb the tower (definitely worth it - the exhibitions are amazingly lifelike and entertaining) and explore the secret tunnels.

There's no shade in any of the car parks - so leaving the dog in the car is not an option here.   Parking is free, entry charges to the castle apply.

Selection of places to eat, with full meals in the restaurant (no dogs), cafe, and ice creams.  A land train circles around the castle if you want to avoid the steep sections.  English Heritage shop.

Full Walk Details

Best fun for dogs is on the Ramparts Walk - a swathe of soft grass with panoramic views over the ferry port and inland.  There's also a good bit of open lawn by the lighthouse and chapel.
