A cosy little cafe in the heart of historic Evesham. The cakes are outstanding! Dogs get a good welcome here, and it's lovely to find a cafe like this one.
The Word of Mouth backs onto the grounds of the old Abbey, now a ruin thanks to the Henry VIII. Dogs won't be able to romp around, but it is an attractive spot for a gentle stretch of the paws.
The old abbey is where Simon de Montfort is buried. An important power-broker in the 13th century he turned rebellious under Henry III. The Battle of Evesham saw de Montfort came to grief when he was out-generalled by the future Edward I. You'll notice plenty of de Montfort sympathy in the town even today, with a modern de Montfort bridge, street names and even local companies.
