Full Walk Details

Two walk options here, and the first one is ideal on a cold, crisp winter's day. In warmer months you need to cross a field of cows - so if you're a coward like me the other walk option avoids them!  So for Walk 1 in Winter turn right on to Village Road and then bear left onto Church Lane. Turn left at the first signed footpath and through the gate into a field. Follow the path across a footbridge into the next field (cow alert) and walk straight across the field and cross another footbridge. Turn left here and keep the stream on your left as you follow the path across a number of successive fields and finally end up at Little Bitchfield.  There must be a story behind that name! The church spire can be seen in winter when the leaves are off the trees.  For active dogs this is a 3-mile linear walk over arable fields, except the one field with livestock.   Walk 2 Turn right from the pub car park. Bear right at the church, Manor Road, and then turn right onto Chestnut Lane. Reach Back Lane and turn left. Turn right at a corner of the lane and walk along this track towards the railway bridge you can clearly see.  These lanes are quiet agricultural routes with a few houses, and the distance from the pub to the track took me under 10 minutes and that includes a bit of walking in the wrong direction.  Once you're on the track this is a safe off-lead spot for dogs with a 2.5 mile walk to Twyford Woods. As a linear walk you've got up to 5 miles of walking on a flat and uneventful track. It can get muddy and isn't as pretty as the other walk but there are no cows!
