Easy, flat dog walking along a Lincolnshire waterway - and no stiles. The canal was built by the Romans, which does make you think.
There's a British Waterways visitor centre at the start of the walk, with models of working locks and info about the canal and wildlife, designed to appeal to minds of all ages. For opening hours call: 01636 704481, admission is free.
This is an easy-going amble along a towpath, ideal dog walking without stiles, cows or sheep to get concerned about. Start off by heading East, away from the River Trent, and just keep going! Lincoln is about 10 miles away, and the next village with refreshments and WCs is Saxilby - 5 miles. Turn round at your own half-way point to return to Torksey Lock and your car.
