River Severn Country Park, Shropshire

Description

Calm country park regenerated from former coal mine and quarry workings.  The park is about 20 years old now, and starting to settle into a really pleasant green space with the River Severn an added attraction to the landscape.

Details

GPS coords for car park: 52.4529, -2.3633  Visitor Centre is open: Wednesday to Sunday and Bank Holidays November to March 1100-1600 (tea shop opens 30 minutes later at 1130); April to October 1200-1700pm (tea shop 1200-1700).

Walk

Easy to follow paths within the park, and a ferry over to another section of park on the other side of the river Severn.  There's also a riverside path to Upper Arley (dog-friendly cafe and public WCs) which takes about an hour each way.

Took turning from A442 to Hampton Loade (Brown Sign for Country Park, but not the main entrance to park). National Trust Car park next to River Severn (reasonable charges apply). Signposts for walks in all directions along the river.

Pubs with outdoor seating on both sides of the river with a ferry between the two banks. Not sure if dog friendly or not.

Great place to stop off on our long journey and let the doggies stretch their legs.
