Flat but interesting dog walk on the waterways' equivalent of spaghetti junction.
Various information boards attempting to explain the complexities of the canal/river systems here.
There's a choice of walks here, all alongside different waterways. Reach the start of all options by walking past the Navigation Inn. Jem's favourite is to turn right at the river and follow the Trent Valley Way along the banks of the river. There's meadow land to the side of the path that gives a dog a bit of romping space. A left turn at the river will take you under a railway bridge and off in the direction of the Attenborough nature reserve and the confluence of the rivers Soar and Trent. The power station cooling towers puff out steam over on your right and make fabulous cloud shapes in the sky. It's about 4.5 miles to the Attenborough Nature Reserve, with full visitor facilities, and it's waymarked.
There's also the towpath of the Erewash canal, a short walk will bring you into Long Eaton.
