Dog-friendly walks and eating out in Wells, Somerset
Breathtakingly pretty medieval city, and with several really nice dog-friendly cafes and family pubs. Touristy? Yes, and with good reason. Don't miss it if you need a break from the A39.

This is a thriving village on an island of high ground in the middle of the levels. It has a long history, going back as far as the Iron Age, and even today has an air of importance about it.
Family-run village dining pub with a welcoming atmosphere and highly enticing aroma of food.
Astonishingly old inn, closer in time to 1066 than the present day. Full of atmosphere and dog-friendly.
A popular local pub overlooking a cricket pitch and a great starting point for a dog walk.
Glorious walk with the dog on the Dorset Downs, with fantastic views. Luckily the walk starts at the top of the hill so no steep climbs involved here.
Popular pub with great food, and a warm welcome for all and dogs. Booking almost always essential in summer, even if you just call ahead on your way. And the walk is good too.
Lovely place for a dog walk, with well tended paths and signed trails. There are dog rules, and areas where dogs must be on lead.
Splendid moorland dog walk with panoramic views over to Kinder Scout and the Dark Peak. This is one of those bucket list walks, although here we're doing it the easy way. For the dogs, obviously.
A friendly and welcoming inn close to the M50 Junction 1, and Upton. Dogs are welcome in the pub and the walk is an easy route over fields.
Gentle woodland for canine romping and sniffing. Jem loved the soft leaves and moss on his paws.
We loved this walk, and the chance to walk alongside a vineyard made this feel more like the Champagne region than Godalming.
