Doggie meatloaf recipe

Doggie meatloaf recipe

Creating a dog-friendly meatloaf can be a great way to provide a tasty and nutritious treat for your furry friend.  We often take pre-sliced doggie Meatloaf in the coolbox for instant snacks on a long journey.  Both dogs love Meatloaf and it's a special treat we only use on roadtrips so they have very positive associations with the campervan! Here's my simple recipe:

Dog Meatloaf

Ingredients

500g lean ground beef or turkey

1 egg

75g cooked vegetables (e.g., carrots, peas, broccoli, sweet potatoes), mashed or finely chopped. I use leftovers.

75g cup rolled oats or whole wheat breadcrumbs

1 tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan-assisted) and lightly grease a loaf pan or baking dish.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, egg, mashed vegetables, rolled oats or breadcrumbs, and oil.

Mix the ingredients well until fully incorporated.

Press the mixture into the prepared loaf pan, making sure it's evenly spread and compacted.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and slightly browned on top.

Allow the meatloaf to cool completely before slicing it into portions appropriate for your dog's size.

Serve small portions as a special treat for your dog. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, or freeze for later use.

Always ensure that the ingredients you use are safe for dogs and consult with your veterinarian to ensure the meatloaf fits your dog's dietary needs and preferences. Enjoy treating your pup to this delicious homemade meatloaf!
