Coral Beach - dog-friendly beach and walk, Scotland

Description

Stunning white coral sand beaches- Linear walk. Drive out of Applecross towards Milton, keep driving out of the village til you reach a fork in the road. Take the left hand fork, the Fire Station and Village Hall are on your left hand side, you'll pass the Applecross gallery on your right and through a village (Camusterrach), the school will be on your left. Keep driving down this road until you reach a sign post for Ard-Dhubh, turn right and park along this road- Do not park in the passing places, it really annoys the locals. The footpath sign which will be on the left hand side- the sea will be on your right. Follow the path that has been cut in to the heather, the moorlands here can be quite boggy. The sheep roam free up here and some of the pools are very deep with steep sides- keep an eye on your dog. Keep working your way down the path which has a sharp decline as it rounds the stream, there are steps cut in to the path some are quite large. The path will divide just after this point. The right hand path will take you to Ard- Ban. Poll Domhain Bay awaits you once you have walked up the path and rounded the bend, keep walking and you'll come across three old bothy cottages not far from the beach. Taking the path which is straight on at the sign post will take you to Coral Beach, this can be boggy or just plain wet at times good waterproof boots are a good idea. Follow the footpath across the moorland until you reach a sign post pointing right for Coral Beach, this is near the abandoned cottages. Don't be fooled by the tracks across the grass on the right hand side of the main path heading towards the beach- these are always wet and very boggy. Enjoy the beach, a great place to have a picnic or just sit and admire the views across the bay. There is a holiday cottage a bit further round the headland that can only be reached on foot via this path or by boat!
