A11 exit 12 dog walk by the Loir, France

Premium

Description

The splendid Château Royal de Durtal completely dominates the Loir river and dates back to the 11th century when it was the stronghold of Fulk the Black. The castle acquired respectability and prestige over the years and is now part conference centre, wedding venue and stylish B&B. Entrance is by guided tour with advance booking only, so not very practical for drivers.

However cultured canines have the run of the uppermost of the three large terraces next to the château, and don't forget to help yourself to an impossibly aristocratic poo bag from the car park dispenser. A fresh water pump dispenses cool fresh water for thirsty dogs too.
