Balaruc-le-vieux is a sleepy village next door to the much more touristic thermal spa town of Balaruc-les-Bains. If you're staying in the area then a visit to Balaruc-les-Bains is definitely worthwhile, but for a quick stop the quieter neighbour is a much better bet for stress-free parking and a gentle stroll.

The Étang de Thau (Thau Lake) laps at the base of the very substantial village ramparts, and this is one of the few places where dogs can get in for a good swim.
