An almost secret woodland and lake with quiet charm, and a great place for a dog walk. At one time this was the Desford Colliery, now there are just a few traces of the former industry - look for the headstocks in the middle of the fishing lake.
Getting there: Signed for Forterra Desford with a huge blue sign. Car park is on the right. Free parking. Picnic tables. Dog bins. Car park for the Woods has 2m height restriction. On road parking for vans is possible.
You'd never guess that this was once a colliery! There's a good mix of grass and lake, and you can venture further afield on the 100 mile Leicester Round walk which links into Bagworth Heath. There's a 1km surfaced path, good for wheelchairs and buggies.

Avoid the crowds at Bagworth Heath
What I love about this place is that you can pull up alongside the entrance and your dogs are seconds away from woods, open spaces, hills and lakes. There’s a wide tarmac path that meanders quite a distance, and lots of opportunities to go off in different directions. If you follow this path to its end, you leave Bagworth Heath and enter a different wood, but at some point you’ll have to turn back as it’s not circular, unfortunately. Also wish there was a cafe! If you do meet other people with dogs, they are likely to be off lead.
