Castle ruins dog walk and country pub in the Vale of York, North Yorkshire

Description

It's easy to drive through the village and barely notice. And yet in days of yore the castle here was a favourite of the celebs of the day, including both Richard III and Henry VIII, and it was said to be one of the grandest castles in the North. You might think it played a heroic part in battles, but no - the damage came from a near total lack of attention to routine running repairs, and then a lot of stones were taken away to be re-used elsewhere.
