This is a large expanse of parkland, over 70 acres, and clearly a favourite with local dogwalkers from the Barnsley area. There are signed paths within the park, but there's no chance of getting lost here.
I was really impressed that the tiny cafe has blankets to wrap around dog-walkers sitting on the outdoor terrace on cooler days.
At Cannon Hill Park: Pay & Display car park. Disabled parking free, WC, cafe with fresh cakes, home made soup. Blankets provided for outside tables in chilly weather.
Cannon Hill park is a large expanse of parkland, over 70 acres, and clearly a favourite with local dogwalkers.
We walked alongside the small river from the car park and then struck out into the park on a broad path. There is plenty of space for dogs to run and play safely off-lead, and as the landscape is very open there’s little chance of getting lost!
If you have the time, the historic walled garden next to the Hall is well worth a visit. It dates from the late 18th century and quaffers of Australian wine will be intrigued to know that a vine seed imported and cultivated in one of the greenhouses in 1802 thrived, and a cutting of vine was then exported to Australia where its offspring form the roots of today’s Ozzie wine industry.
