M42 Junction 4 dog walk at Lapworth, Warwickshire
Description
Handy pub car park for a walk by the canal. The pub closed suddenly in July 2025. We hope new owners will take over soon, but meanwhile it's a good walk. Close to the M42 and the M40.

Walk
Cross over the road and turn right to cross over the Grand Union Canal and then turn left to head down to the towpath. We usually turn right on the towpath, cross over a bridge and turn right up the canal arm towards Kingswood Junction and the Stratford Canal. The Stratford Canal is a delightful, quiet stretch of waterway and is home to barrel cottages (unique to this canal). There is a nice example as you approach Kingswood Junction. The junction itself is a flight of 19 locks, so there's plenty of opportunities to see narrow boats in action. Enjoy strolling along the canal until you're ready to return.

Fantastic place, lots of parking and garden area, lots of dogs in the garden. Outdoor bar, food looked lovely, £20 for 2 courses, looked all freshly cooked, we had already eaten, seemed a bit of a trek from the m42 but well worth it.
