M42 Junction 9 Kingsbury Water Park, Warwickshire

Description

A wonderful opportunity for dogs to race around over meadows, or just chill out on the grass in this well-planned and popular water park.  Children are well catered for too.   Refreshments, clean loos, and a friendly and helpful visitor centre with useful local information.

Details

GPS coords for car park: 52.5608, -1.6988  Car park (£Parking charge). Open 0830 to dusk. WC+disabled. Information centre, coffee shop, gift shop, adventure playground, picnic site, miniature railway.  Access paths, mobility scooter hire (01827 872660).  Note  you need to have the correct change to operate the car park barrier on entry.   2023 - it seems that the signage and maintenance here has nose-dived, and parking charges have increased to £4.50 flat fee  (see the review below). We're reviewing this and may suggest an alternative if possible.

Walk

Be aware of blue/green algae warnings here, and don't let your dog swim when the warnings are up. This park is a miracle of good planning, created out of spent gravel pits in the mid-seventies. There are 15 lakes in 620 acres of leisure space here, and the paths are surfaced so it's a fine all weather walk.

Maps and info are available from the information desk, but essentially this is a space where it is very comfortable to amble at will and there is something to suit everyone.   The Heart of England long distance footpath runs through the park, joining Staffordshire with the Cotswolds.

Bit of a mixed bag

It's easily accessible from both junctions 9 and 10 although use the sat nav as signposts aren't the best.

Loads of parking space and a great mix of open meadow for ball throwing and woodland for squirrel chasing - sounds really good so why only 3 stars?

You can only park for a full day so £4.50 (March to October) is steep for an hour or so of break on the journey.

It's also a very confusing place - there are no maps near the car park and even fewer signs to guide you around.

Probably wouldn't bother again as a stop on a journey
