M61 Junction 8 dog walk Cuerden Valley Park, Lancashire

Description

A quiet and restful walk along the side of the River Lostock in a less-visited section of this vast country park. You can get here easily from the M6 too.

Details

Satnav coords for car park: 53.7006, -2.6547  Small charge for parking. Dog poo bins.

Walk

Length of walk: 30-40 minutes   Take the pathway at the far end of the parking area and continue onto a well maintained gravel pathway. The River Lostock will be on the right hand side.  Continue as far as the 'ruins' on the right, and then bear right and cross a footbridge to head uphill through the kissing gate.  Turn round when you're ready and follow the path back to the car park.   The ruins here were a mystery - were they Roman or Victorian? Thanks to Dave Carr for letting us know that the ruins are in fact the remains of a bleaching and printing works which burned to the ground in 1914.
