There are two marked trails through the 85 acre woodland here, one with no steps or stiles. If you choose the tower walk, it is apparently possible to see Wales from the top on a good day!
The woodland is great for dogs to sniff all sorts of rural delights, and is popular with local dog-walkers.
Free car park (gated). WC, refreshments, children's play area at the visitor centre â€" open 1300-1430 Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends. Dog bins. Alternative WCs can be found at the services on the motorway exit roundabout.
There are two marked trails through the 85 acre woodland, one with no steps or stiles. Details of wildlife and longer routes, including the Darwen Tower walk, are available from the visitor centre.
The 2 mile walk to Darwen Tower starts at the lychgate. Apparently it is possible to see Wales from the tower on a good day. We didn't try this one, as the rain was pelting down and the leaf canopy of the wood looked a lot more attractive. Entering through the lychgate brings you to a selection of paths heading off at various angles through the woodland, all well-maintained and easy to follow. The woodland is full of exciting sniffs for dogs, and popular with local dog walkers.

Regular walk - and my favourite
We've been walking her for about 9 years. There are several paths through the woods, a bit rough in places. You can walk along the river and then up towards the reservoir. After that, you can walk along the private road by the reservoir and continue up the hill. A short distance up here you can take a left and get back into the woods. Alternatively, you can walk up towards the tower.
Unfortunately, the cafe in the woods does not allow dogs to be taken in.

Had a lovely day there yesterday with our Jack Russell Alfie. Not crowded even on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Would definitely recommend.

A hidden gem! Some lovely woodland walks and a fabulous little cafe (only open on certain days). Will certainly be going back again.
