Reservoir dog walk near Upper Boddington, Northamptonshire

Description

A lake belonging to the Canal Trust, so its main purpose is to top up the canal system. Leisure use is encouraged, and you'll find a sailing club, fishing, and lots of dog-walkers.

Details

GPS coords for car park: 52.1768, -1.2797  Picnic benches. Several dog bins by the car parks.  Two car parks, the one that has a signpost is better for dogs - it's also the car park for the sailing club.  Note: no WCs here

Walk

Go through the gate just after the car parking bays and this is an access track to the sailing club. On your right you'll spot a gate leading into a doggie zooming field. We were here early in the morning and several dogs were hurtling around after tennis balls - I'd guess this depends whether anything has been planted. There's a gate at the far end to leave the field so you can miss walking on the cinder track entirely.  After the sailing clubhouse you can either turn left on a footpath towards Byfield, or continue straight to walk by the water.   The Byfield footpath is quite short and starts off with a section of nature reserve and Byfield Pool.    The reservoir walk is a circular stroll around the water. When there are no anglers it's doggie delight. Be aware that this lake is really popular for highly competitive angling competitions and on these days happy frolicking Fido may not be made welcome.
