Yorkshire might have more stunning ruins than any other county, and this is way up there in the ruin league. And dog-friendly.
English Heritage car park. Parking charge refunded against entry ticket. Public WCs in car park (free). Nice gift shop.
In Helmsley, a lovely footpath was signed to the Abbey. It looked great, nice surface, well signed and all looked good. It didn't long for this to become a footpath going through fields of sheep, with stiles and nothing much going for it. Jem and I had started, so we finished. And all I can say about the experience is: drive to the abbey and forget about the path!
