Turn off the A66 following signs for the Pheasant Inn/Bassenthwaite Lake Station. If coming from Keswick, turn off the A66 right at the end of the dual carriageway. As you head down the slipway, look for a large layby/parking area on the right - park here!  If turning by Bassenthwaite Lake Station, follow the road to the end and park on the left. Head down the road to the Pheasant Inn and turn left where the road sign says 'Wythop Mill'. Follow the road a short distance then turn left through a gate onto a footpath passing the back of the pub, through the trees to a forest track. Turn left and follow the track up the hill. As you climb, turn right at path junctions, continuing fairly steeply uphill until you pass through a gate and see a path to your right heading steeply uphill.  Follow this until you reach the summit.  For a less steep route up, from the pub continue down the road towards Wythop Mill and look for a path through a gate on the left  (just past some houses - there's a small lay by here if you'd rather park here instead). Take the path leading to the right to enjoy a more gentle climb to the top. There are several ways up/down this hill, if you don't have a map, remember to keep the lake to your right as you head down!
