Woodland walk for the dogs. And the chance to discover possibly the most unspoiled pub in the county. If it's friendly rural authenticity you're after, here it is.

Parking opposite the pub.  We'd suggest phoning to check they are open before turning up.

Pub or Cafe Address

Burncote Lane, near Checkendon, RG8 0TE

Closed Mondays

For seasonal opening hours and food service times please check their website

Menu Style

Great bacon sandwiches.

For full menu information, allergens, specials, prices and reservations please check their website.

Dog Rules

Dogs welcome, but must be outside because inside is so small.

As you stand and look at the pub you'll see a track on the left. Take this and you'll arrive in woodland. A bridleway takes you to Scot's Farm, and then after that you can cross a lane and continue on the Bridleway for many a mile. It's easy walking, and dogs will adore the fresh forest smells. Turn round when you're ready and return to the Black Horse.
