Tantallon Castle visit with the dog, Scotland

A good ruin with a view always makes a good stop for kids of all ages and dogs too. This castle has all sorts of gruesome features to delight the bloodthirsty. When we visited in 2023 much of the castle interior and near the walls was out of bounds for safety reasons. The dogs weren't bothered but we were a bit disappointed.

GPS coords for main car park: 56.0540, -2.6587 What3Words: ///touched.trifling.blubber  Visitors' dogs are allowed at Tantallon Castle, but are not permitted in roofed areas. Disabled access is partial, steps and uneven ground surface. Disabled WC. Entry charge approx £6/adult and discounts for EH/CADW members. It's used as a film location so always check opening times before your visit. PARKING - use the first car park and walk down to the castle. Parking near castle has disabled spaces.

An on-lead stroll in the castle grounds will give you the outstanding views over the sea and a feel for the confidence of the Douglas clan in building here.
