If solitude and seclusion is what you and the dog need, then this woodland has it in abundance - on a busy Bank Holiday we didn't see or hear a soul.
The entrance to the woods is at the far end of the lay-by, on the left. There are three marked trails, and it's just as nice to strike out on your own.
I found the isolation slightly creepy, maybe because I'd never been here before. Would suggest it's better for a couple of people or more plus dog.
Free Car Parking
On the A619 pass the Van Dyk Garden Centre and Hotel (S43 4TD) on the right. This is the nearest postcode. Park at the far end of the first signed parking in a spacious lay-by on the left.
The entrance to the woods is at the far end of the lay-by, on the left. There is no fixed route here as the paths are clear and easy to follow. Jem and I turned left and walked for a mile or so under a tree canopy that was so dense that there is virtually no undergrowth, and it felt chilly too.
For dogs it's great, all off-lead with plenty of exciting smells to investigate, and lots of little wild-life tracks.
