This is a great place to stop for a piece of real rural quiet.
Varied parkland, with woods, open space and some very pretty ponds. We were charmed by the Common and it's an excellent spot for a gentle dog walk.
A fine place for a family and dog break where there's something to please everyone. At first you see the cafe and fun children's play area, and then you realise that there's a lot more going on here.
A marvellous dog walk, with an astonishing historic earthwork to keep kids of all ages guessing who built it, and why.
If you're looking for a taste of rural Essex, a stop here for refreshments and a walk with the dog will transport you into a totally different mindset from the busy roads.
Handy place to know about for drivers with dogs on the A38 and visitors to the Webbs garden centre and Hanbury Hall. As of August 2024 the exterior is now a cream colour (not the previous grim green).
Small roadside pub on the A451 and it looks as if it's sinking below the weight of tarmac and traffic. But no - inside you'll find more space than expected, and a beer garden in summer too.
Another marvellous dog walking place in the middle of Thetford Forest. Can't help thinking that Norfolk dogs are just a tad spoiled for choice.
Roaring log fires in winter, and wall-to-wall dogs - this is the place to live the canine dream! Refurbished and under new management, and still a great pub with superb food.
Another of our favourite dog-friendly pubs in the Wolds, with good food and a warm welcome to visitors. In warm weather the garden tables are a delight for a glass of cool lemonade after your walk.
Much more than a brilliant dog walk near the Salisbury Road, this is one of those defining moments of history and heritage in the landscape. Ideal for kids of all ages and dogs.
