Favourite dog recipes for fruity cakes

These dog cakes are just pawfect for decorating for your pooch on his gotcha day or any other excuse for a celebration you can think of.  You can bake as cupcakes, or in a loaf tin for a single cake.  They freeze well and our two collies love these!

Carrot and Apple Dog Cake

Ingredients

1 large carrot, grated

1 apple, grated

180g whole wheat flour or mealworm flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 egg

120ml water

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan).

In a mixing bowl, combine grated carrot, grated apple, egg, and water.

Gradually add the flour and baking powder, mixing well until you have a smooth batter.

Grease a small cake tin or individual cupcake moulds.

Pour the batter into the tin or moulds.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool completely before decorating.

Decoration

For a Christmas cake effect I use Greek yoghurt 'icing' and sprinkle a little Bonio crumb or freshly grated carrot on top.  You can go mad here, but remember everything has to be dog-safe - so no sugary confections!

Remember, moderation is key when feeding your dog treats or special meals. Always consult your vet before introducing new foods into your dog's diet.
