Home-baking for your pampered pooch

Our dog has her 4th birthday this month, and it's time to dig up those recipes for yummy canine cake!  Effi loves both these cakes and the Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Cake is ideal for using up any left over Halloween pumpkins.

Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Cake

225g whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

60g natural peanut butter - check that this is petsafe and with no xylitol

60ml unsweetened applesauce / grated eating apple

1 ripe banana, mashed

60ml vegetable oil

60ml honey

1 egg

Optional: Dog-friendly frosting (like plain yogurt or mashed sweet potato)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan-assisted) or 200°C (standard). Grease a small cake pan or muffin tin.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour and baking soda.

In a separate bowl, combine peanut butter, applesauce, banana, vegetable oil, honey, and egg. Mix well.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan or muffin tin.

Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.
