In the pawprints of Harry Potter in England

When walking your dog, your mind may sometimes wander to a land of fantasy and adventure and one of the most fabulous creations in books and films is the world of Harry Potter. The films are full of special effects, but they were not all filmed in a studio. For those who would like to follow the cast and crew's footsteps, here are some of the most famous places from the Harry Potter films where you can walk your dog in England.

Lacock If you want to visit the village of Godric's Hollow, the site of Lily and James Potter's house, Lacock is the place to go. Nestled in the Cotswolds, it was also used as the location of Horace Slughorn's home. Lacock Abbey acted as the interior for Hogwarts in the first couple of films. Dogs are welcome at the abbey, but only in the gardens. For a little more exploration, there are plenty of dog walks and dog-friendly places to visit near Lacock on Driving with Dogs.

Malham Cove Following Ron's desertion in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Hermione spirited Harry away to Malham Cove, a fantastic limestone formation. There are some very good walks in the area and fine dog friendly pubs in Malham. For dog walks in and around Malham Cove, check out Driving with Dogs.

Goathland To visit Hogsmeade Station, you need to go to Goathland Station. Sadly the view of the castle is unavailable due to the fact that it was computer generated, but there is some splendid walking in and around the village of Goathland on Driving with Dogs. The station is on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and riding on the train is a very pleasant way to spend some time, and your dog can come along too.

Alnwick Some of the best scenes in the films include the broomstick flying lesson and the car crash after the pursuit of the car by the Hogwart's Express. These were both filmed in Alnwick castle. Happily, there are no Whomping Willows to worry about, but dogs are not allowed in the castle grounds. However, there is a perfectly fine walk for dogs to enjoy as well as dog-friendly pubs and cafes on Driving with Dogs.
