Stretch of the Paws in Dufton, near the A66 at Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria

Some pub opening times and dog rules are still changing. Please check your chosen pub is able to welcome you before making plans.

Description

If you're travelling across the A66, a great place to stretch your legs and dog's paws is in the village of Dufton - an attractive village which sits on the Pennine Way. With a free car park and plenty of easy on-street parking, it's an lovely place to stop and start walking up the Pennine Way road and onto a track. Ultimately this goes up to High Cup Nick but the first mile & a third it's a quiet road which only serves one property, so little chance of meeting any vehicles. Pleasant views looking back over the Eden Valley.

From the car park, proceed back through the village the way you came in until you pass Brow Farm Bed & Breakfast (on the left.)

Turn left up the next road - signposted Pennine Way and High Cup Nick (3.5 miles) - This road continues for 1.33 miles before turning into a track.

It's an out and back walk and once you reach the first gate, you may well encounter sheep beyond, so put dogs back on lead if you are walking any further.

The Post Box Pantry

Lovely, little place to eat and dog friendly. We enjoyed a breakfast, I shared mine with Bobbie our cockerpoo. Highly recommend.
