We came here on a wet, windy day after a morning where just about everything went wrong. So I was totally charmed by the welcome here.
Long sandy beach that's almost completely deserted out of season, and relatively peaceful even in the school holidays.
Calm and peaceful woodland for a dog walk close to the M180 Junction 4. Dog-friendly pub nearby with honest, home-made food.
The prosperous little town of Linlithgow bustles purposefully, with fair trade shops and a wide choice of cafes and restaurants. Definitely worth a detour if you're passing through the area.
Once a royal hunting preserve, today the forest of Boulogne is over 2,000 hectares of fabulously cooling greenery.
Dogs are made very welcome at this 13th century castle that feels more like a film set than actual history. The gardens are pretty and aromatic and the castle itself is tiny inside.
Riverside country inn with access to the river and also a short circular dog walk.
A traditional canalside dog-friendly pub and an easy walk with the dog on the towpath. I love the way that all the different canals have such a different style of brickwork, bridges and locks.
One of the prettiest bays in this part of the coast, and dog-friendly all year. The hotel at the top of the slope is fantastically dog-friendly and provides big bowls of water for doggie visitors.
Woodland dog walk with a mix of open glades, wide paths and more natural side paths, and with seats and picnic tables popping up from tme to time throughout.
A choice here of a doggy day out, with a chance to admire a jaw-dropping wooden medieval barn and take a walk with the pooch with refreshments at a particularly friendly village pub.
