A44 dog-friendly cafe and dog walk, Herefordshire
An ideal place to take a driving break with the dog, or to make a special weekend walkies trip, or just to enjoy for no reason at all!

Great place to visit as the dogs can go into the castle as well as the cafe. Had a great time there with my 2 dogs would recommend.
This is dog walking country at its best, through woodland full of the sounds of nature and undisturbed wildlife simply getting on with it.
The sweetly named 'Daffodil Way' is a gentle dog walk through meadows and then fields.
Hugely welcoming and dog-friendly pub that's well worth a bit of a wiggle down country lanes to get there. It's set in an enviable spot with magnificent country views.
A chance to admire the final landscape carried out by Lancelot "Capability" Brown and enjoy a wander in the grounds of a rather splendid Georgian house.
Doggie delight of a walk and historic site quite close to Presteigne, and most dogs will be safe off-lead as there's no sheep around to spoil things.
Attractive 16th century black and white dog-friendly pub that's easy to find, and an uncomplicated dog walk too.
On a dry day this little cafe is a real find, and a lovely place to sit down for a pot of tea and cake. There's a small shop with a selection of local produce, from jams and chutney to local cheese.
This is one of my favourite castles on the Welsh/English border. It's perfect for a gentle stroll with the dog, a boisterous game site for travel-weary kids or even a romantic picnic.
Easy to reach from the A40, this is such a good place to stop.
Once the stronghold of the Mortimer family, the village now has fallen back to rural life and the castle ruins are great for kids and dogs to explore.
If you're a member of the National Trust, this large estate can be a useful stop to let the dog out for an on-lead saunter.
This pretty little village on the river Arrow makes a lovely stop with the dog. Dogs can cool down in the river, and there are several walk options from a short stroll to a 7-miler!
Lovely country pub, with fabulous locally sourced food. Excellent dog walking country, with several routes in and around the Lugg Valley.
A country park with some really well thought out trails, including a very fun Gruffalo Trail for kids. Well equipped for parking, facilities and snacks. Every dogs' delight for walkies.
National Trust castle and parkland - so lovely home-made cakes are guaranteed! A definite family pleaser, with a play castle for kids near the tea rooms and loads of bounding space for dogs.
The woodland here is a haven for butterflies and moths - not that dogs will appreciate that - but it's well worth sitting quietly for a bit in summer and seeing how many different ones you can spot.
A community village inn that really serves its community. Lovely friendly atmosphere, and of course dogs get a great welcome too!
A delightful 17th century inn with easy access to dog walks and the River Wye for particularly hot dogs to take a dip.
Top-end cooking and service at this dog-friendly country inn, and dog-friendly B&B rooms are available too in comfortable lodges.
Interesting, quiet and doggie-delightful woodland that's pawfect for dogs in need of an off-lead moment of madness. And just down the road is a friendly pub to restore driver mojo too.
Waterside pub with an abundance of character, and fantastically dog-friendly. Good food too.
Near the A44 this small town has a dog-friendly pub and an excellent dog walk. Also independent shops and a market, and plenty of options for picnic supplies.
Riverside country inn with access to the river and also a short circular dog walk.
Really welcoming, slightly old-school and very comfortable dog-friendly pub and hotel in the Wye Valley. Jem and I were charmed!
Charming dog-friendly village inn overlooking the spacious green and church. This is an ideal place to take a break and relax in this pretty village.
This is just one of the car parks and walks in this enormous forest. I like this walk because the path is less popular than the walks from the other car parks, and the view is spectacular.
A riverside dog walk near pubs and cafes, as well as the famous view from the top.
Dog walk delight in this woodland, which was once part of an ancient hunting forest. Now it's run by the Forestry Commission and there are quite a few marked trails to follow.
