M58 and M6 motorway doggiestop Beacon Country Park, Lancashire
There are well signed paths leading out from both the car parks here, and plenty of space for dogs to stretch their legs and enjoy some excellent romping space.

A useful park to know about if you're staying in the area, and a good place to start the Barnoldswick heritage trail.
Informal country park with footpaths and its very own atomicon!
A real local's pub in the Ribble Valley. Full of rural charm in a quiet village. Sadly dogs are not allowed inside, but this is more than made up for by a splendid walk.
Fully accessible cafe and small park in the centre of a small village with strong links to the Pendle witches. Longer dog walks are also possible, and there are two dog-friendly pubs as well.
An easy place to find from the main road, and after the dog has explored the park area you can walk into the town from here to see the Castle.
A choice of car parks, some free the others P&D and a number of trails from wherever you stop. It's a popular weekend outing but there's plenty of space and enough walking to keep everyone happy.
A popular country park formed around the river Wyre and its estuary.
Turn right off Brock Mill Lane to find Brock Valley Picnic Site and a free car park. A notice board has details of all the walks available.
A dog-friendly village inn to take a break from a long drive, or to stay for a weekend. A dog walk from the door gives you a glimpse at life in this outstandingly pretty village.
Picture perfect village that looks as if it belongs in the Cotswolds! Tea room in summer and a lovely walk over lush grassy fields.
A perfect walk for sociable dogs, with soft lush grass, doggie beaches by the river and swimming. Always check the river levels before letting your dog in the water.
A quiet backwater by the canal where dogs can run free on the towpath. The dog-friendly pub is currently open only at weekends.
Fabulous surroundings, dog-friendly and immensely welcoming establishment near Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley.
A chance for a dog walk up one of the country's most iconic hills for a massive view from the top and historical connections from prehistory to witchcraft trials.
Outstanding traditional country hotel with quite formal service and a wonderfully warm welcome. Dog-friendly accommodation here too. Very much a place for delightful weekends away, and celebrations.
When the tide is out the beach here is an enormous doggie playground with views across to the hills surrounding the South Lakes.
One of my favourite country pubs with a warm-hearted and friendly welcome to walkers, dogs and families.
A quiet and peaceful spot with a good legstretch for dogs and drivers. It feels as if you're driving to the end of the world but you will reach a car park at the end of the road!
A lovely woodland walk near a tranquil reservoir is ideal for dogs and drivers.
A free car park and access to the forest for dog walks on paths where cyclists are very unlikely. This is a remote part of the forest and very calm.
A quiet village beside Morecambe Bay and within sight of the hills of the Lake District, there's plenty to explore here.
Turner came here to paint, the Victorians flocked to admire the scenery. Your dog should be happy with a walk here!
It's easy to spot this very distinctive building from the road. Inside you'll find a very dog-friendly establishment with dog-friendly B&B rooms too.
A dog-friendly pub with access to several really long dog walks over the fells, and a shorter one for dogs on a journey.
A really popular dog walking and paddling spot where the beach is made of tough grass. Loads of doggie fun!
The woodland is great for dogs, with no stiles and plenty to occupy the canine nose.
A locals beach a couple of miles along the promenade from Blackpool Tower and Piers. Dog friendly all year round but subject to tides (sea comes right up to sea wall at high tide).
Excellent dog walking woodland, and every car in the car park had an enthusiastic dog on board. The pup loved it here and happily dived from woodland to river and around again.
When walking on a Beacon it's clear that the walking won't be flat, and that good views are guaranteed.
There are two marked trails through the 85 acre woodland here, one with no steps or stiles.
Three hundred acres of open countryside for dog walks, countryside displays and exhibitions, guided walks, craft fairs...there must be something for just about everyone at Beacon Country Park.
This overgrown ancient quarry gives a good compact wooded walk with the benefit of a wheelchair accessible path to access most parts.
Part of a huge country park with several car parks and activities.
A fabulous chance to get a massive view over the surrounding countryside and enjoy an off-lead walk with the dog.
A mown track around a grassy field adjacent to the car park on the northbound side. Takes about 10 minutes to complete a circuit. Picnic table and poo bin at the start.
This was a surprise - we were expecting a pretty lagoon of scenic delight. But the lagoon had almost no water in it, apparently for 'safety concerns'.
We really enjoyed the walk here and especially the sound of the waves rippling across the surface of the reservoir.
An easy dog walk beside one, or two reservoirs if you're feeling energetic.
Circular dog walk around a reservoir that's an easy one for families with small children and the path is fully accessible. No stiles and no livestock to spoil a good dog walk.
Relaxing 150 acres of parkland that seems to please dog walkers of all ages. Once part of a family estate, Worden's gardens were designed by Andrew Nesfield - of Alton Towers and Kew Gardens fame.
Marvellous dog walking here, with lots of different paths through mature woodland.
A quiet and restful walk along the side of the River Lostock in a less-visited section of this vast country park. You can get here easily from the M6 too.
Easy-going dog walk to the reservoir, and lots of fresh air to liven the dog up from the car. Afterwards, well-behaved dogs are welcome inside the pub, and the food is delicious.
Just out of the centre and situated a little way from the beach this is a good location when it's a blowy day near the sea.
Lovely easy walk on gravelled paths around a very large country park. Lots of access to the River Lostock running through which the dog loved.
Cuerden Valley Park is hugely popular with dog walkers, and the bright-eyed, waggy tailed dogs Jem met made it clear that this is a piece of canine heaven.
A popular dog-friendly cafe and walks, and it's easy to find from the A56.

My favourite beach for playing when visiting Blackpool. Sand dunes and lots of running space. You don't need to check tide times as the beach entrance never seems to get closer than around 0.

The pup had a fabulous walk in the oak and broadleaf woodland here, we both loved it.
A National Trust property with a marked circular walk suitable for dogs, and also the usual clean facilities for driver comfort. It's a good family stop even without the cafe.
Good combo of dog walk and welcoming dog-friendly pub. The bar has a haunted fireplace so after a scamper over the fields, your dog may get the chance to growl at some spooks.
Very easy to follow circular dog walk on a Public Footpath around a reservoir, with fields and an old railway line too. The walk is a good one - and the pub is dog-friendly.
We were here on quite a stormy day and the dog-friendly hotel was a welcome refuge! Dogs are welcome to stay in the hotel too. The beach is dog-friendly and ideal for a quick walk.
